Iran’s 1st waste-to-energy incineration plant operational

TEHRAN, Feb. 10 (MNA) – The country’s first waste-to-energy incineration plant located at Arad Kouh Complex Waste Process and Disposal became operational today. The plant was inaugurated with the attendance of the vice president, Tehran’s mayor, a number of city managers and news media representatives. Arad Kouh incineration plant has been constructed in collaboration with China and produces 3MW of electricity by incinerating 200 tons of waste per day. According to the report, 60 percent of the funding for the plant’s construction has been allocated by the municipality and the remaining 40 percent by the private sector. The construction has taken three years to complete. The repository of the incineration plant has the capacity to store fuel for ten days. Arad Kouh Complex Waste Process and Disposal is located in south of Tehran near Kahrizak Town and at the beginning of old Tehran-Qom Road. With an area roughly 1,400 hectares, this center has been deemed as the receiver of the Tehran City wastes as of 1976. Considering the available statistics, on average a daily rate of 7,460 tons of wastes are delivered into this center.
