King Urges Malaysians To Use Modern Technology Responsibly

PEKAN (Pahang), Dec 7 (Bernama) -- The King Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Saturday called on Malaysians to use modern technology and communications in the digital world responsibly. Al-Sultan Abdullah said the new technologies and communications should not be abused in issues that could be detrimental to national unity and harmony. “The act of spreading slanderous, false news and statements that can threaten national harmony and unity is irresponsible. “I call on the people to be more responsible and to respect the harmony of the country. Modern technology should be a tool for the well-being of the people and to create success, not to destroy the country,” he said. Al-Sultan Abdullah said this at the DRB-Hicom University of Automotive Malaysia's sixth convocation ceremony in Pekan here Saturday where 686 graduates received their Master’s Degree, Bachelor's degree, diplomas and certificates. Also present were DRB-Hicom Berhad Group managing director Syed Faisal Albar, DRB-Hicom University of Automotive Malaysia vice-chancellor Prof Dr Omar Osman, state secretary Dr Sallehuddin Ishak and state police chief Abd Jalil Hassan. Commenting on the advent of new technologies and communications, Al-Sultan Abdullah said higher education institutions also needed to undergo various transformations in order to prepare graduates to face the challenges. He said the presence of technology led to the fourth industrial revolution (IR 4.0) would have an impact on the life and landscape of the world in which technology and information systems would replace humans in many jobs. “Higher learning institutions should offer multidisciplinary courses in technology as well as applying inter-personal skills, communication, teamwork and leadership,” he said. Al-Sultan Abdullah, who is also the chancellor of the university, also touched on the words of wisdom posted on the wall of the hall, which he described as a ‘good reminder’. “I hope this reminder will be used a guide for young people not to fear failure ... but look at it as an opportunity for us to achieve more successes than we have now,” said His Majesty, referring to the reminder that anyone should not give up and to keep on going even after facing failures numerous times. Al-Sultan Abdullah also congratulated all graduates, their parents and management of the university as Saturday’s ceremony witnessed 18 graduates of the first group of Master’s degree programme received their scrolls. His Majesty also touched on the university’s success, which now offers 45 foundation, diploma, degree and post-graduate programmes, specialising in automotive eco-system, which he described as a proud achievement after being upgraded to the university status in October 2015. “I have been informed that the university has introduced virtual campus experiential learning that allows students not to be on campus physically to participate in the learning sessions. “The university has also taken steps by launching an academic programme through work-based learning via a partnership with the Composite Technology Research Malaysia that will provide a clearer exposure to the technology used in the modern world,” he said. -- BERNAMA
