MPOB Receives Gold Medals, Special Award From Korean Institute Of Patent Information

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) received three gold medals and one special award from the Korean Institute of Patent Information at the Seoul International Invention Fair 2015 (SIFF 2015). The MPOB technologies that won the gold medals were on medium density fibreboard production, mechanisation on treating oil palms infested with basal stem rot disease and polyurethane production from used frying oil. Director-General Dr Choo Yuen May said the agency was proud to receive the recognition. "What is more important is that such technologies further expand the economic potential and the attractiveness of the oil palm sector," she added, in a statement. In addition to the gold medals, the technology on utilisation of oil palm trunk for MDF production, also clinched a special award. The SIIF 2015, from Nov 26-28, was hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office and organised by the Korean Invention Promotion Association. For SIIF 2015, a total of 525 innovations from 33 nations was evaluated, with 65 hailing from Malaysia. -- BERNAMA
