New Steering Committee to Guide Development of Singapore's Infocomm, Media Sectors

SINGAPORE, June 18 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) announced Tuesday the formation of an Infocomm Media Masterplan Steering Committee which comprises representatives from the people, private and public sectors. Announcing this, Minister for Communications and Information Dr Yaacob Ibrahim said the 14-member Infocomm Media Masterplan Steering Committee will be chaired by Credence Partners chairman Koh Boon Hwee. "It will be led by the private sector and supported by my Ministry along with IDA, the Media Development Authority and Economic Development Board," Dr Yaacob said. "Over the next two years, the Committee will work closely with the academia, private and public sectors to deliver a Masterplan to guide the development of Singapore’s infocomm and media sectors into 2025," he said at the official opening of the annual Infocomm Media Business Exchange 2013 (imbX). Held annually in Singapore since 2009, the imbX is Asia’s largest ICT, digital media and entertainment platform that brings together prolific trade shows such as CommunicAsia, BroadcastAsia and EnterpriseIT. Also present at the ceremony was Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek, who is in Singapore to attend the eGov Global Exchange 2013 and imbX Ministerial Forum on ICT which kicked off Tuesday. The Steering Committee will also look into how infocomm and media can transform the way we work and live, identify key development areas for the Infocomm and media sectors including major areas of focus and challenges, and develop recommendations for Singapore to embark on. The Committee will be supported by five Working Committees which will study and make recommendations in areas of technology and R&D, infrastructure, enterprise development, manpower and talent development and sectoral transformation. -- BERNAMA
