PM Najib Launches Sarawak Lifesaver M1 Water Supply Project

BETONG (Sarawak, Malaysia), Feb 21 (Bernama) -- Some 20,000 families in the state of Sarawak are now enjoying fresh water supply using the Malaysian-developed Lifesaver M1 System, which uses the latest British nanotechnology. Prime Minister Najib Razak on Thursday launched the system at Beladin, a small fishing and farming town about 60km from here, which is part of the Batang Lupar parliamentary constituency. Speaking at a meet-the-people session in the compound of the Beladin town mosque, Najib said the project was yet another testimony of the continous effort of the ruling Barisan Nasional government to raise the living standard of the people. He said it had, through the rural and regional development ministry and the 1Malaysia Development Board, spent RM60 million (US$19.32 million) to implement the project. "In our development agenda, we are focused on helping the people raise their standard of living through our transformation programme. "We have one which is aimed at bringing overall development and progress in the country and for the betterment of the government delivery system. We also have the rural transformation programme aimed at building more roads, bringing more water and power supply projects and housing into rural areas nationwide," he said. Najib said the transformation programmes were far more beneficial than the reformation agenda of the opposition which would only create chaos and destruction. Thus, he appealed to the people to give his government another five years in the coming 13th General Election to effectively implement both programmes. He said it was more so in Sarawak which is a very large state with very scattered population. Najib said, unlike the opposition, the BN government was very serious in keeping all promises it made, with regard to the people's well-being and welfare. "They are only good at making sweet promises which they cannot fulfill and which is dangerous. "The BN is capable of keeping its promises as it has the resources to do so, due to the sound position of its economy which has registered a growth of 6.4 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2012, which is also one of the highest in the world," he said. -- BERNAMA
