Vietnam Wins Three Top Prizes At Fifa Online 2 Competition

SINGAPORE, Dec 26 (Bernama) -- Vietnam made a clean sweep of the three top prizes for the EA SPORTS™ FIFA Online 2 competition at One Asia Cup 2012 (OAC 2012), one of the largest regional cyber game tournaments, which was held at the state-of-the-art Cyber Jaya MyCORE Centre in Kuala Lumpur from Dec 14 to 16. They emerged victorious from among 20 finalists chosen from 3,000 players in five countries -- Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and host country Malaysia -- to win the cash prize of US$7,000 in addition to the sponsored items, medals and cups. Vietnam emerged champion for the third consecutive year in the annual competition. It is the first time that the country, represented by its students, won all the top three places. Besides the EA SPORTS™ FIFA Online 2 competition, the other core game in the three-day cyber game tournament was the fast-paced and adrenaline pumping tactical game, Counter-Strike Online. Sixteen teams, with 80 contestants from Singapore and Malaysia battled for the crown. The Malaysian team, OrangeEsports, won the gold medal and collected a US$4,000 prize while the silver and bronze medals went to Singapore team, LiteLab, and Team LZ of Malaysia respectively. The tournament was organised by IAHGames, the Singapore-based online games operator and distributor. IAHGames Group CEO, Roland Ong said that tournament has exceeded their expectations. "A total of 160,000 gamers watched the OAC 2012 via TwitchTV live stream, which is 50 per cent more than our anticipated 100,000 viewers," he said, adding that this indicated strong interest in OAC which is gaining extensive attention rapidly in the region. -- BERNAMA
