Airbus Survey Says People Will Fly More By 2050 Despite Social Media

KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Bernama) -- A two-year global survey conducted by Airbus revealed that 63 per cent of people worldwide will fly more by 2050. Quoting the survey findings, the aircraft manufacturer said 50 per cent of people also did not think social media will replace the need to see people face -to-face. "There are 96 per cent of people who believed that aircraft will need to be more sustainable or 'eco-efficient'. "While almost 40 per cent of people worldwide feel air travel(door-to-door) is increasingly stressful," said Airbus in a statement here, Monday. Airbus said the survey involved 1.75 million people to spell out what passengers want from flying in the future, its Executive Vice-President Engineering, Charles Champion said. He said the results of the survey also showed that there was nothing better than face-to-face contact. The world is woven together by a web of flights that create ever-expanding social and economics networks, where there are 57 million jobs, 35 per cent of world trade, and US$2.2 trillion in global gross domestic product (GDP). On future of air travel in terms of environmental considerations, Charles said 86 per cent of people think less fuel burn is the key while 85 per cent of them want carbon emissions to be reduced. He said 66 per cent of people want quieter aircraft while 65 per cent of them want planes which are fully recyclable. "Since we launched the Future by Airbus, we have engaged with people in 192 countries in a dialogue about the future of air travel. "It's clear that people are really excited about the future of sustainable flights and we want them to be part of shaping that future," he added. --BERNAMA
