KL to Host 6th Global Summit on Urban Tourism in December

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- Kuala Lumpur has been chosen by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) as the first Asian city to host the 6th Global Summit on Urban Tourism (GSUT) in December this year. Themed “Sustainable and Competitive Tourism on the New Urban Agenda”, the summit is being organised by UNWTO in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MOTAC). MOTAC in a statement today said UNWTO had previously hosted the summit in Luxor, Egypt (2016); Marrakesh, Morocco (2015); Barcelona, Spain (2014); Moscow, Russia (2013) and Istanbul, Turkey (2012). The summit, slated to be held at the Majestic Hotel here from Dec 4 to 6, will have four sessions discussing on three topics, namely Tourism and the New Urban Agenda, Key Factors for Urban Tourism and Success Stories on Urban Tourism Performance. The GSUT is expected to attract 500 local delegates and 300 international participants to exchange ideas and experiences, update their knowledge and expand the existing network for future sustainable and competitive urban tourism growth and development.
