Labuan To Host Ambassadors Next Week

LABUAN, March 4 (Bernama) -- The Labuan International Business and Financial Centre (IBFC) will be hosting at least 30 ambassadors from various countries next week as part of the federal territory’s efforts to promote the island globally. Labuan Corporation chief executive officer Dr Fary Akmal Osman said the ambassadors’ visit from March 13 to 15 would be a boon to the island’s tourism, education and economic promotion activities. “We expect the number to double to close to 100 delegates as they will be accompanied by their spouses and officers,” she told a press conference at Wisma Perbadanan Labuan here Wednesday. She said various programmes related to investment, education, sports, culture, tourism, science and technology knowledge and know-how transfer have been drawn up for the delegates during the three-day visit. According to her, the delegates would be visiting Petronas’ methanol plant, a major producer of the readily biodegradable chemical. “They will also be involved in corporate social responsibility activities at Rusukan Besar Island where they will witness turtle hatching and visit the island’s heritage site ‘The Chimney’. “We are banking on economic-bilateral ties with the countries represented by the ambassadors to highlight a number of areas (relevant issues),” Fary added. Meanwhile, the Malaysian delegates will include Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali and Public Service Department director-general Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman . Other Malaysian officials who are expected to be on hand are Treasury secretary-general Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir, Federal Territories Ministry secretary-general Rosida Jaafar and Foreign Ministry secretary-general Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob. -- BERNAMA
