Malaysia Participates in Inaugural Pakistan Travel Mart in Karachi

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- A total of 19 Malaysian organisations are stationed under the Malaysia Pavilion as the country participates in the inaugural Pakistan Travel Mart at the Karachi Expo Centre from Friday until Nov 26. The organisations comprised travel agents, tourism product owners, hoteliers, Malindo Airlines, Islamic Tourism Centre and officials from Tourism Malaysia. Tourism Malaysia in a statement here Friday said among the objectives of Malaysia’s participation at the expo were to increase the awareness and interest of tourists and travel agents from Pakistan of the exciting potential that Malaysia presents as the preferred travel destination in Asia. Its director-general, Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, said they were encouraged by recent statistics released by Euromonitor International which showed that there were 4.8 million outbound Pakistani tourists, who collectively spend PKR 249.50 bilion (RM 9.75 bilion) annually. “Moreover, Malaysia is currently the 12th most favourite outbound destination by Pakistani tourists,” he added. Malaysia recorded 39,202 tourist arrivals from Pakistan from January to August this year. On the connectivity between two countries, he said there were nine weekly flights offered by Pakistan International Airlines and Malindo Air with 2,450 seats capacity. “The upcoming launch of Malindo Air’s Karachi-KL route, as well as the implementation of the e-visa system implementation is expected to further facilitate travel to Malaysia,” he added. -- BERNAMA
