Melaka Receives RM107 Mln For Tourism Sector Development
MELAKA (Melaka, Malaysia) April 9 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government has received an allocation of RM107 million from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture to implement the physical development of the tourism sector in the state since 2011.
Chief Minister Idris Haron said the funds were used for the development of tourism facilities and landscape of, among others, the Botanical Gardens, Chinchin Lake, Melaka Monorail (phase 2), Hang Tuah Village and Sungai Duyong waterfront.
“The state government wishes to thank the Tourism and Culture Ministry for the allocations which had enabled to the state to receive various accolades and awards,” he told reporters during the Monthly State Government Assembly organised by the Tourism and Culture Ministry’s Melaka Office here Monday.
Also present was Tourism and Culture Ministry’s Melaka Office Director Jeffri Munir.
Idris said the development of the Melaka’s tourism industry has resulted in the yearly increase in the number of tourists visiting Melaka, with 16.8 million visitors in recorded 2017 compared with 14.3 million in 2013.
“The improvements of the state’s tourism sector are impacting Melaka’s economy positively through various economic activities that are contributing towards the betterment of the living standards of local residents.
“Apart from that, the promotions and marketing campaigns carried out by the Tourism and Culture Ministry in Malaysia and overseas, presented Melaka as a tourism destination that cannot be missed,” he said.
