Old Mining Tunnels To Be Developed Into New Tourism Attraction In Malaysia's Kelantan
JELI (Kelantan), Jan 24 (Bernama) -- The nearly century old gold mine operated by a French mining company in Kampung Kalai here will be developed into a new tourism attraction in Kelantan.
District officer Nik Raisnan Daud said four tunnels, 95-metre long each, discovered at the mining site would be promoted to lure more tourists to the state.
“There are likely to be other tunnels built in 1931 by the French mining company before the Second World War for gold mining in the area.
"The tunnel, which is 100 per cent man-made, still has a strong structure. Some of the unique features of the tunnel include it is not built with support structures such as wood, stone or cement but it is still solid and durable,” he told reporters after visiting the site Friday.
Nik Raisnan said the tunnels would be opened to tourists in the near future.
