Toss Up Good Fortune With Fruit-Based Yee Sang In The Year Of Rooster

By Samantha Tan KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 (Bernama) -- Chinese New Year comes early for Hilton Kuala Lumpur's Chynna's restaurant with a preview of its new fortune and prosperity "Lao Sang" and Chinese New Year menu recently. Traditionally, Yee Sang or prosperity toss salad, is served during Chinese New Year with raw fish and "surrounded" with different types of colourful vegetables with plum sauce. However, the young people of today's modern society do not mind trying out the new taste of Yee Sang also known as Lao Sang with a little contemporary touch. Realising that people are now more health conscious, Chynna's Chef Lam Hock Hin, brillianty came out with an idea of using fruits as part of the ingredients for Yee Sang. During the preview, the Chinese restaurant chef introduced the modern Yee Sang that would surely entice the taste buds of those wanting to enjoy food without worrying about the extra calories. Chef Lam said that the modern Yee Sang and Chinese New Year dishes were created for customers looking for traditional Chinese New Year dishes with a modern touch. Besides the fruit-based Yee Sang, also available are traditional salmon Lao Sang, year of rooster Lao Sang, Chilean crab with gold flakes Lao Sang, caesar salad with grated parmesan cheese salmon Lao Sang and Australia 3 heads abalone Lao Sang. "All these would be a healthy, colourful and modern way of Yee Sang for 2017 as we use fruits rather than vegetables. The dish also has chicken pieces served with plum sauce," Chef Lam explained. He said that nowadays most people were willing to try out new dishes without compromising on the traditional taste, adding that today's society, especially the younger generation, were looking for healthy and modern dining. Chynna will also present a Chinese New Year menu set, available from Jan 5 to Feb 16, like Steamed Wild Patin Buah with Salted Fish and Touchu, Chili and Congee Broth," "Simmer Abalone Cube With Sea Cucumber and Mushrooms In Abalone Sauce" as well as "Stir Fried Korean Pear With Vegetarian Meats and Sea Moss."
