Venice to begin charging tourist entrance fee

Tourist hub Venice, Italy will begin charging visitor entrance fees in July 2020, local media said Friday. The city's municipal council decided that non-residents seeking entry would be charged an entrance fee between €3 ($3.3) and €8 ($9), according to the Rome-based ANSA news agency. Reports said the fee would rise in 2021 to between €6 ($6.6) and €10 ($11). The city hosts 20 million tourists annually -- far exceeding its capacity -- according to the daily Telegraph.
