Bangladeshi artists perform in the dance drama “Tasher Desh”, written by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore during his 150th birth anniversary celebrations at Shantiniketan in Birbhum district of the eastern Indian state of West Bengal on Thursday evening. Tagore, a multi-faceted Indian personality and the 1913 Nobel Literature Prize winner, is held in great esteem both in India and Bangladesh. Inspired by Alice in Wonderland and western opera, Tagore had written Tasher Desh (country of cards) for a satirical portrayal of a society ruled by strict conventions and also as a veiled criticism of the British Raj.
