The May 18 Memorial Foundation said the same day that it has named the Indonesian human rights activist the winner of the 2020 Gwangju Prize for Human Rights that commemorates the 1980 pro-democracy uprising in the South Korean city of Gwangju, in which hundreds of citizens were killed during their protests against the military junta of Chun Doo-hwan.
