ECO Expert Meeting Opens In Tehran

Tehran, March 4, IRNA – The third expert meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) opened here Monday morning. The two-day meeting is focused on expansion of energy cooperation among the ECO member states. It will be followed by the ministerial meeting of the ECO which will begin on March 6 in the Iranian capital with the participation of the oil and energy ministers of the body. Established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey, the ECO is an intergovernmental regional body which provides a platform to promote economic, technical and cultural cooperation among member states. In 1992, the ECO was expanded to include seven new members, including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan./end
