Iran Exports Carpets To 80 Countries

Tehran, Sept 23, IRNA – Iran exported hand-woven carpets to 80 world countries during the past Iranian year, ended March 19, 2012, Minister of Industries, Mines and Trade Mehdi Ghazanfari announced. Noting that Iran’s share in the global export of hand-woven carpets is 24 percent, the minister said that Iran managed to export its products to a large number of world countries despite sanctions. Addressing the opening of the 21st exhibition of hand-woven carpets here Sunday morning, he also said that two-third of Iran’s annual production of hand-woven carpets, which stands at five million square meters, is exported to foreign countries. According to the minister, hand-woven carpet is Iran’s second most important export item after oil. He said the value of Iran’s annual carpet exports stand at about dlrs 500 million./end
