ADVANCED WEATHER INFORMATION SYSTEM PRESENTED

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ On January 12, Mercy Corps Mongolia Country Director Ramesh Singh handed over the Advanced Weather Information System (AWI) to Major-General T.Badral, Chief of the NEMA. Mercy Corps Mongolia, has been collaborating with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in implementing a project titled ‘Leveraging tradition and science in disaster risk reduction in Mongolia-2’ since 2016. Within the project, the Advanced Weather Information System (AWI) was established in cooperation with mobile operator companies. AWI has been providing herders and herder communities in 209 districts and 17 aimags with real-time, on-demand weather forecasts and pasture information using nothing more than a feature phone and a network connection.
