Biak Munara Wampasi Festival To Be Launched In Jakarta On March 30

BIAK, Papua, March 15 (Antara) - The annual Biak Munara Wampasi (BMW) will be officially launched in the Jakarta Convention Center here on March 30. The launch, to be organized by the Tourism Ministry and the Biak Numfor District Administration, would coincide with Deep & Extreme Indonesia event and is meant to promote the festival particularly among divers, adventurers, underwater sports lovers, and e-tourism tourists, Biak District Head Thomas Ondy said here on Tuesday. The festival has been included in the national tourism calendar, he stated. Other Papua's festivals that have been included in the tourism calendar include Baliem Valley Festival and Asmat Festival. This year, the BMW festival will also be carried out with the assistance of an event organizer. Ondy hoped that the festival would be able to attract foreign tourists. The BMW festival will be organized from July 1 to 4, according to Turbey O. Dangeubun, head of the Biak tourism office. The festival will be highlighted with a snap mor traditional fishing, walking on hot stones (apen byaren), Mansusui/wairon traditional boat race, exhibitions, traditional dance and song festivals, and a visit to Padaido/Aimando Islands.
