Commemorative banknotes issued marking Thai King's 70th accession to the throne

BANGKOK, May 31 (TNA) - The Bank of Thailand (BOT) has issued new 20 million 70-baht commemorative banknotes, as part of the country's grand celebrations of the 70th anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's Accession to the Throne on June 9, 2016. BOT Governor Veerathai Santiprabhob told journalists on May 30 that people are welcome to purchase the 70-baht commemorative banknotes at the price of 100 baht each at most bank branches, starting from June 9, to join the nationwide celebrations of the royal auspicious occasion, with about 600 baht-proceeds, 30 baht each, will be presented to His Majesty the King as a courtesy to support royal projects. The BOT chief said that the 70-baht commemorative banknotes will be available at all branches of commercial banks in the country, as well as those of the Government Savings Bank (GSB), the Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BACC), the Government Housing Bank (GHB) and the Islamic Bank of Thailand. According to the central bank governor, the front of the commemorative banknotes will depict the portrait of His Majesty the King in the Supreme Commander of the Royal Thai Armed Forces uniform, while His Majesty's portrait in full regalia holding the Sword of Victory and standing in front of the Phuttan Kanchanasinghat Throne inside the Grand Palace is printed on the reverse side of the bills. The size of the 70-baht commemorative banknotes is 89 x 162 mm with major security features including, a raised print on both sides and a glittering ink where the Thai number “๗๐” on both sides sparkle upon tilting, a colour-shifting ink tilting and changing the colour of the number "70" from gold to green, a latent image and a fluorescent ink.
