Fire at Fortune Town in Bangkok under control
BANGKOK, March 20 (TNA) - A fire broke out at Fortune Town shopping mall in Bangkok on Monday morning, but firefighters have brought the blaze under control within less than an hour with no reports of any casualty.
The fire broke out at a stereo shop on the third floor of the shopping mall on Ratchadapisek Road at around 8am, causing traffic snarls in the area, one of the most traffic congestion zones in the capital during daily rush hours.
Firefighters, however, brought the blaze under control within less than an hour, while an official investigation is under way to determine the cause of the fire.
Din Daeng District, where Fortune Town is situated, has declared the shopping mall off-limits, while the district chief, Saisri Hirunprasertwut, was inspecting the scene, saying that the cause of the fire could be accidental or man-made.
Deputy Bangkok Governor Amnuay Nimmano told journalists that the fire alarm was operational when the fire occurred.
Public work officials and engineers were also sent to inspect the site to assess internal damages of the building.
Fortune Town IT Mall, where a Tesco Lotus supermarket is also located, is popular for selling computer and accessories. (TNA)
