Flooding in Thai South alleviates

BANGKOK, December 13 (TNA) - The Ministry of Interior reports that the flooding situation in several areas in the Thai South has been relieving, leaving only a few low-lying locations to have been inundated, while assistance will be provided to flood victims in accordance with official regulations. Interior Minister General Anupong Paojinda told journalists on Tuesday that as floods have been receding in most areas in the Thai south, damages are being surveyed and assistance to flood victims will be provided in accordance with official regulations, including owners of affected rice fields and plantations. Disaster prevention and mitigation chief in Trang Province Kultharin Rojanasurasri told reporters, meanwhile, that the situation in eight flood-affected districts has been returning to normal, leaving now eight sub-districts in Muang and Kantan Districts to have been inundated at a stable level due to impacts from a high tide. Kultharin said eight districts in Trang, where there are 68 subdistricts, 23 communities, 399 villages and nearly 15,000 households, have been earlier declared flood-stricken disaster zones, with one death toll so far, assessing that floodwater along the two sides of the Trang River should recede by next week.
