Kyrgyzstan develops anti-crisis program due to accession to EAEU

BISHKEK, May 20. /TASS/. The government of Kyrgyzstan has developed an anti-crisis program in connection with the possible negative effects for the country’s economy after its accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Kyrgyzstan’s Economy Minister Oleg Pankratov said on Wednesday. He was speaking at a parliamentary session, which discussed the ratification of the Treaty on Kyrgyzstan’s accession to the EAEU.
"In addition to developing the anti-crisis program, we have also set up a round-the-clock crisis center to deal with the problems that may emerge immediately after joining the economic union," the minister said. He noted that the government of Kyrgyzstan was fully prepared for "a period of turbulence" and for "smoothing out rough edges", which may follow after joining the EAEU. If endorsed by the country’s parliament, the draft law on Kyrgyzstan’s accession to this economic union will require presidential approval before it formally comes into effect.
Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan’s borders with the EAEU member-countries will open only after the parliaments of all other countries within the union ratify the treaty, Pankratov noted. The minister added that the Kyrgyz side would make every effort to convince its partners not to delay the ratification until autumn.
The Kyrgyz government took a decision to join the Customs Union in the spring of 2011, filing a formal application six months later. Until last December, the parties worked on resolving legal issues and tackled technical and organizational problems. On December 23, 2014, Kyrgyzstan’s President Almazbek Atambayev signed a basic agreement on the country’s accession to the EAEU, which comprises Russia, Armenia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
