Myanmar, Thai armed forces boost ties
BANGKOK, May 25 (TNA ) - Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces General Min Aung Hlaing is paying a three-day official visit to Thailand as the guest of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, scheduled for May 25-27, aimed to strengthen military ties and cooperation between Myanmar and Thailand.
Thai Armed Forces Chief General Sommai Kaotira welcomed his visiting Myanmar counterpart at the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters on the outskirts of Bangkok on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the Myanmar and the Thai Supreme Commanders confirmed that the armed forces of both neighboring countries will keep their good ties and cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels, covering intelligence, military exercises, border affairs and education.
The Thai supreme commander also told his Myanmar counterpart that the Thai junta needed to take over the national administration in May 2014 to restore national order and security and has proceeded with its roadmap towards true democracy in the country, with a new general election expected in mid-2017.
