Security tightened in Bangkok on violence report

BANGKOK, March 15 (TNA) - Security in Bangkok has been tightened as the government is attempting to calm down fears that violent attacks would occur on 100 spots in the Thai capital as claimed by Criminal Court bombing suspects who were apprehended by police on March 7. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha told journalists late Saturday that he has learned about the report and has ordered concerned security agencies to closely monitor the situation in Bangkok. “It is necessary to impose stricter security measures because there are still many troublemakers in the country," said General Prayut upon his arrival at the military airport. He urged the people to understand that his government is trying to restore peace in the country. General Prayut also called on the people to become “eyes and ears” for the government to help create peace in the country, saying that the government is confident it could control the situation. The prime minister left for Sendai, Japan, on Friday for the 3rd UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction. Meanwhile, deputy government spokesman Major General Sansern Kaewkamnerd cited intelligence reports as confirming that there are still no sign of violence on Sunday. Major General Sansern asked people to continue their normal day-to-day activities as security officials are well prepared for any untoward incidents. Police and army personnel have been posted at several important spots in Bangkok, he added. (TNA)
