NEW YORK, September 20 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has arrived in New York to attend the 71st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA71) and related sessions at the UN Headquarters during September 20-23. Accompanied by his wife, Assoc. Prof. Naraporn Chan-ocha, and his entourage, the Thai prime minister, who left Bangkok on September 18 (local time), arrived in New York at around 1:35pm on September 19 (New York time) amid a warm welcome by the Thai community in the United States. The group of Thai nationals from many US states wore white T-shirts with the same painted message "We love you Uncle Tu", the Thai premier's nickname, and presented roses to the Thai leader and his wife, while also chanting words to boost his morale and asking to take photos with him and his entourage. The Thai prime minister then met and discussed with officials on preparations for his participation in the UNGA71 and related sessions and thanked the officials for their support. On September 20 (New York time), the Thai prime minister is scheduled to first join other world leaders to attend a breakfast reception hosted by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and his wife at the UN Headquarters and to then attend an event marking the first anniversary of the adoption of the 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development by member states. After that, the Thai premier is scheduled to attend the opening session of the UNGA71 and to be later granted an audience with King Abdullah II of Jordan to discuss bilateral issues between Jordan and Thailand. The Thai prime minister is scheduled to then join other world leaders to attend a formal luncheon reception hosted by the UN chief. During his stay in New York, the Thai leader will propose the Sufficiency Economy Principle, advised by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, as an approach to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development while he delivers a speech at the UNGA71 and will also attend the Summit for Refugees and Migrants, organized as part of the UNGA71.
