Thai PM bestowed UN plaque for disaster management and support for women’s roles

BANGKOK, October 14 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has been presented an honorary plaque from the United Nations for her disaster-related management and support for women’s roles in disaster risk reduction in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Margareta Wahlstrom, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, bestowed the honorary plaque to Premier Yingluck at a ceremony held at Bangkok's Government House on Friday. Yingluck then promised to further support disaster-related management at the regional and global levels, acknowledging that, after a flooding crisis in Thailand late last year, her government has worked out water management plans to cope with inundations. On the occasion, Mrs. Wahlstrom invited the Thai prime minister to the fourth session of the UN Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction, set to be held in Geneva from May 21-23, 2013. (TNA)
