MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE ORDERS TO ACTIVATE PREPARATION FOR HARVESTING

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ P.Sergelen, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, gave directions to Department of Coordinating Agricultural Policy Implementation and related officials to map drought impacts, report current states of crop yields, activate preparation of havesting, make assumption, give guidance to farmers and clarify harvesting technology. With the order, four working groups will be deployed in Selenge, Tuv, Orkhon, Khuvsgul, Arkhangai, Uvurkhangai, Dornod, Khentii and Sukhbaatar aimags. The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry started the spring sowing on May 3 and sowed 517.4 thousand hectares land. This includes 391.6 thousand hectares of grains, 366,9 thousand hectares of wheat, 14.6 thousand hectares of potato, 7.2 thousand hectares of vegetables, 75.9 thousand hectares of oil plants, 25.7 thousand hectares of fodder plants, 1.9 thousand hectares of medicinal herbs and 287.1 thousand fruits. With an aim to reduce financial difficulties of farmers and organize harvesting technologies on time, over 1300 private entities and farmers were provided wheat seed with 40 percent pre-payment, fuels with 50 percent pre-payment, fertilizer and plant protection substances with 30 percent pre-payment loans, totalling MNT 16.2 billion worth of supply loans.
