Bangladesh: NAM Should Help Reform UN

Tehran, August 28, IRNA – Bangladesh Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Abdul Momen said on Tuesday that the Non-Aligned Movement should help reform the United Nations. Speaking to IRNA, he said occurrences of financial crisis in the world indicate that international institutions as well as the United Nations require fundamental reforms. Bangladesh Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN is in Tehran to participate in the Non-Aligned Movement Summit. NAM with its large members at the UN and other international institutions help revive the UN system as well as other economic and financial bodies such as World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF), he said. Other global issues such as international developments, poverty, unemployment which have left crucial impact on global system should be heeded by the NAM member states, he said. NAM under Iran’s chairmanship within next three years can play significant role in leadership of the international community, he said. Bolstering peace and durable developments in the world are among other topics to be discussed in the Summit of Leaders, he said./end
