Fight against transnational terrorism should be conducted in accordance with UN Security Council mandate - Russian Security Council secretary

ULAN UDE, June 25. /TASS/. Fight against transnational terrorism should be carried out in accordance with the UN Security Council mandate, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev said on Thursday. "We are confident that fight against extremism and terrorism should be conducted on the basis on UN Security Council’s mandate that holds main responsibility for maintaining international peace and security," Patrushev told journalists. He noted that fighting international extremism and terrorism became one of the main topics at an international meeting of high-ranking officials coordinating security issues that took place earlier today in the South Siberian city of Ulan Ude. The Security Council secretary said that terrorism and extremism has become a profitable business with its own labor market. Extremists are still striving to get access to weapons of mass destruction, he added. The main threat is coming from the Islamic State terrorist organization "that have nothing in common with Islam," Patrushev said. He stressed that the participants in the meeting agreed that only joint measures adopted by the world community can help fight this evil. Read more
