Iran Entitled To Produce Nuclear Energy: Chinese Official

Beijing, Jan 11, IRNA -- Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai said on Tuesday that Iran is entitled to produce nuclear energy. According to Hong Kong media, the Chinese official pointed out in an interview that China will go ahead with trade relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and that his country’s commercial ties with Iran has nothing to do with Tehran nuclear program. He underlined that China will continue its extensive cooperation with Iran in the energy and commercial sectors. He made the remarks on the threshold of the US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner’s trip to Beijing. Geithner is expected to pressure China to help the US in its sanctions on Iran. “Iran has the right to use peaceful nuclear energy and the West had better enter into negotiations with Iran instead of imposing sanctions,” Tiankai said./end
