Iran FM Warns UN Chief Against Regional Security Crisis

New York, March 5, IRNA – Foreign Minister of Iran Ali-Akbar Salehi, in a letter to the United Nations Secretary General, warned Ban Ki-moon against the spread of Syrian crisis in the region, urging the international body to find a peaceful solution to the problem. The letter was sent to the UN chief following the recent terrorist blasts in Damascus which killed and injured a large number of civilians. Salehi called for condemning such terrorist attacks by international bodies, the UN in particular. Iran believed that continuation of violence and blind bombings would postpone achieving a peaceful solution for the Syrian crisis and would indicate frustration of those who believed their interests would be served through creating instability in Syria, Salehi said in his letter to the UN chief. He also said that further delay in finding a solution for the Syrian crisis would by no means benefit the innocent people of that country and would endanger the regional and international interests as well. Such delay would lead to the spread of the Syrian crisis throughout the region and would have destructive regional and international affects, Salehi added. He urged international bodies to make a joint effort to resolve the Syrian crisis through peaceful means. Salehi also voiced Tehranˈs readiness to help settle the Syrian crisis through diplomacy./end
