MP Calls On UN To Use NAM To End Int'l Conflicts

Tehran, Aug 21, IRNA – A parliamentarian here on Tuesday called on the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to take the forthcoming Non-Aligned Movement meeting in Tehran as an opportunity to end both international and regional conflicts. Mohammad Hassan Asafari, Secretary of the Majlis' National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, told IRNA that the 16th NAM summit meeting, to be held in the Iranian capital city, will be a good chance for countries seeking global peace and tranquility. Referring to the Iranophobia approach masterminded by Washington, the parliamentarian said the presence of the global states in the upcoming NAM meeting will disappoint the arrogant powers and prove that Iran is not an isolated country. He added the NAM meeting will also be an ample opportunity for rejecting the West's unfounded claims that Tehran is seeking nuclear weapons. He further hoped the summit would help promote the trade exchanges among the member countries. The 16th NAM Summit meeting is slated for August 26-31./end
