NSC: Mongolian population reaches two million and 900 thousand

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The population of Mongolia reached this month two million and 900 thousand, the National Statistical Committee (NSC) reported Monday. It has been estimated by a standard method which is utilized at an international level. The population of Mongolia was over 2.6 million in 2010 excluding some 100 thousand Mongolians abroad. It is expected that the population will reach three million by 2017. The NSC has reported that in the first half of 2013, 38,729 mothers delivered 6,572 children (live births) increasing by 2,784 mothers or 7.7 per cent, and 507 children or 8.4 per cent compared to same period of the previous year. At a national level infant mortality decreased by 13 or 2.2 per cent to 577, and child mortality aged 1-5 increased by 12 or 9.9 per cent to 133. The number of unemployed reached 41.7 thousand at the end of June 2013, reflecting a decrease of 5.7 thousand people or 12.0 per cent against the previous year.
