Official: Urging Trump to remain committed to JCPOA to backfire

Tehran, Jan 22, IRNA - Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi said on Monday that giving any incentive to US President Donald Trump to remain committed to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is totally wrong which backfires. On his recent visit to Germany, he said that Tehran has had very close relation and cooperation with Germany in political and economic fields. Following the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) economic sanctions were lifted and many economic opportunities were created in various commercial and banking fields, Araqchi said. On regional developments, Iran believes that countries in the region should give a helping hand to remove the problems, he said. Recent dispute between the US and Europe is very unprecedented, Araqchi said. The European countries alongside China and Russia supported the JCPOA against the US which shows the depth of disputes between the two sides, he said, adding that Trump did his best to win support of the Europeans, but when failed he even tried to exert more pressure on Iran at the UNSC on various issues as missiles or even street unrest but only isolated the US. The Europeans understand that in the absence of the JCPOA which Iran abide to it, they will put their international credibility at risk, Araqchi said. 1378/IRNA
