Supreme Leader’s advisor meets Pakistani president

TEHRAN,Jan.31(MNA) – Ali Akbar Velayati, the senior foreign policy advisor to the Supreme Leader, arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday and met with President Asif Ali Zardari. The Pakistani president highlighted the importance of ties with Tehran and said his country is firm to expand relations with Iran in all areas. He also said the completion of Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project is high on the agenda of his government. Zardari also announced he would make a visit to Tehran in the near future, saying he hopes to meet the Supreme Leader during his trip. The president also said Pakistan plans to increase imports of electricity from Iran to 1000 megawatts and even more. Velayati also met with Pakistani Senate Chairman Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari. Bukhari described relations between the two countries as strategic and emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in order to boost regional stability. Velayati is scheduled to meet with a number of Pakistani Shia and Sunni religious scholars in the next few days as well.
