TS.ELBEGDORJ RECEIVES SPEAKER OF HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE OF MYANMAR

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj Tuesday met with the Speaker of Myanmar Parliament's Lower House Thura Shwe Mann. The latter thanked the President for visiting his country and noted its significance in the relations and cooperation. "We want to learn experiences of Your country that has a multiparty system," he said. In response, the leader of Mongolia said Mongolia is willing to cooperate in closer inter-parliamentary relations with Myanmar, as the former can be a successful example in developing the democracy and parliamentary system. "During the times when the democracy and parliamentary system were developing in Mongolia, many countries supported us in our efforts, now it is our turn to support the transition countries," the President said. Mr Elbegdorj also briefed on the reforms and projects Mongolia has been implementing in its way to the democracy, taking as an example an introduction of electronic counting system that ensures a fair and transparent elections. "Myanmar also can introduce a modern technology in order to conduct their next election in such a way," the Mongolian leader said. The Speaker Thura Shwe Mann supported the President’s suggestions about people-to-people relations of Mongolia and Myanmar, noting great opportunities for mutual cooperation. "We want to learn Mongolia’s experiences in reforming court system and public services that Myanmar needs to implement at once," Mr Mann said. "We are also interested in sending our specialists to Mongolia and in expanding student exchange programs between our countries". Present at the ceremony were Mongolian FM L.Bold MP, a Non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Myanmar Ch.Battomor, the Secretary of the National Security Council Ts.Enkhtovshin, a Deputy minister of Economic development O.Chuluunbat, a Chief of the General Headquarters of Mongolia's Armed Force Lieutenant-General Ts.Byambajav, an advisor of the President on foreign policy L.Purevsuren, an adviser of the President on nature and the environmental affairs E.Zorigt and the highest-rank lama of the Gandantegchilen monastery D.Choijamts. The House of Representatives (Pyithu Hluttaw) is the lower house of the bicameral legislature of Myanmar. It consists of 440 members of which 330 are directly elected and 110 appointed by the Myanmar Armed Forces. The last elections to the Pyithu Hluttaw were held in November 2010.At its first meeting on 31 January 2011, Thura Shwe Mann was elected Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw.
