UN Chief In Tehran For NAM Summit

Tehran, Aug 29, IRNA – Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon arrived here Wednesday to attend the 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement to begin on Thursday. The UN chief was welcomed at the airport by several senior Iranian officials. It is said that Mr Ban is accompanied by Under-Secretary General Jeffrey Feltman, Special Envoy of the UN chief Terry Larsen, his top Advisor Angela Kane and his spokesman Martin Nesirky. While in Tehran, the UN secretary-general is to hold talks with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and a number of Iranian lawmakers. He is also to meet Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani at the premises of the Majlis in Tehran. The UN chief is also to hold talks with Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili. The UN secretary-general will attend the 16th NAM heads-of-state conference on Thursday and Friday despite attempts made by the US and Israel to prevent his presence in the international event./end
