VP: Iran-Iraq Enjoy Excellent Ties

Tehran, Aug 16, IRNA – Vice-President Ali Saeedlu says Iran and Iraq today enjoy very good ties in different political and economic domains and exchange of visits by their officials indicates the willingness of Tehran and Baghdad to further expand their relations.
Saeedlu told Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Ruz Nuri Shaways that Iran hopes that the Iraqi government and people would be able to overcome problems one after another and gain their real position in the region.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is happy that the Iraqi government and nation have been able to tackle their problems so far and to this end, it is fully ready to upgrade cooperation in various economic sectors with the brotherly and friendly country of Iraq,” said Saeedlu.
“We hope that in this meeting, we will be able to reach good agreements to upgrade mutual cooperation and find ways to accelerate implementation of accords already signed by both countries,” he added.
Saeedlu said “We will try to promote mutual economic cooperation. The two countries’ economic cooperation have expanded in recent months but regarding the capacities of both sides, they are expected to upgrade level of cooperation to highest possible level.”
The Iraqi official said, for his part, that Iran is one of the most powerful countries in the region and expressed hope that with further exchange of visits, the two sides will witness expansion of mutual cooperation.
He said his county is ready for stronger economic cooperation with Iran.
