Young Malaysian Researchers Excel in Thailand

KANGAR (Perlis), Feb 9 (Bernama) -- Four young Malaysian researchers did the country proud when they won the  Young Inventor Award for Best International Invention and Innovation for Industry in the secondary-school student category at the Bangkok International Intellectual Property, Invention, Innovation and Technology Exposition (IPITEX 2019) in Thailand. They were Muhammad Amir Mohamad Ghazaly, Muhammad Arif Mohamad Ghazaly, Nur Auni Afiqah Mohd Johari and Nur Ain Nasirah Zamri from a boarding school, Sekolah Berasrama Penuh (SBP) Integrasi Rawang, Selangor, led by Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) lecturer, associate professor Dr Mohd Mustafa Al Bakri Abdullah. The students’ entry was called  ‘Ice Cage’, an innovation which would save water and reduce the cost of producing ice, especially in the food industry. In a statement issued Friday, Dr Mohd Mustafa said the win was exceptional as all the young researchers were aged 16 years old and showed outstanding creativity and innovative skills. He said their invention was exhibited at IPITEX 2019 at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre which saw the participation of 25 countries including Canada, Japan, Iran, Romania and Poland, held from Feb 2 to 6. Dr Mohd Mustafa said Malaysia submitted 89 innovations in the three categories in IPITEX 2019 – primary school, secondary school and university. It won 14 gold medals, 24 silver and 30 bronze. He said besides UniMAP, the Malaysian Research and Innovation Society  (MyRIS) was also a patron of the Malaysian team to IPITEX 2019 which comprised 250 young researchers. -- BERNAMA
