Mehmanparast: Bill To Lower Ties With UK To Be Implemented Soon

Tehran, Nov 28, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said the bill to lower level of ties with Britain will be implemented once the Foreign Ministry officially receives it. Iranian parliament approved a bill to reduce ties with Britain to charge d’affaires with a strong positive vote of 179 on Sunday. Talking to IRNA on Monday, Mehmanparast commented on the yesterday bill by ratified by Majlis which has requested the Foreign Ministry to downgrade the level of diplomatic ties with the UK. He said the British officials have to review their behavior in a bid to remove bad memories from the Iranians’ historical mind if they want to upgrade the level of their relations with Iran. He said that Foreign Ministry will act according to the new law once it officially receives it. He hoped the British officials would correct their behavior towards Iran and avoid decisions which may cause confrontations and tensions with the Islamic Republic. Mehmanparast said the general feeling among Iranians now is that the recent acts of Britain in Iran was just a continuation of its old policies which contradicted Iran’s national interests and violated its rights. The FM spokesman said the parliament’s decision came in response to measures taken by the UK. He said the bill also stated that Iran-UK relations could be restored to the present level provided that Britain corrects its attitudes./end
