Acceptance of UN plan a maneuver to buy time

ISTANBUL (AA) - March 27, 2012 - Head of the Syria's government in exile said Tuesday he had doubts over Assad regime's declared acceptance of a United Nations peace plan which he added might be "a maneuver to buy time" to conceal the regime's fierce onslaught on the opposition forces.
"This might be another step taken to buy time to mask the ongoing violence and shade new violence to come," Burhan Ghailoun, chairman of the Syrian National Council, told the Anadolu Agency correspondent in Istanbul.
Ghailoun stressed the declaration came amid a conference meeting of the Friends of Syria -- a group of countries that seek an international agreement on how to end the Syrian crisis -- saying that Assad regime made similar pledges in the past but failed to honor them.
The U.N. estimates more than 9,000 people have been killed in a year of Damascus regime's deadly crackdown on the opposition.
