Iran can help Tunisia complete democratic transition: Tunisian FM

TEHRAN, April 24 (MNA) -- Tunisian Foreign Minister Rafik Abdessalem said that Iran can help Tunisia complete its transition to democracy. Abdessalem made the remarks during a joint press conference with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in Tunis on Monday, which was held after a meeting between the two officials. “The expansion of ties with Iran can help the Tunisian government and people complete this phase,” the Tunisian foreign minister said, according to a translation of his comments. On Salehi’s visit to Tunis, Abdessalem stated, “It is an honor for the Tunisian government and nation that a senior Iranian official is visiting the country after the victory of the (Tunisian) revolution.” He also said that efforts should be made to enhance bilateral trade. “During the meeting with Salehi, regional and international developments were discussed, in addition to bilateral issues, to help empower the Muslim world, and both sides share common views on various issues,” Abdessalem added. Salehi stated, “The (Tunisian) revolution has bright prospects, and Iran, as a friendly and Muslim country, has always expressed its full support for the country.” And the Islamic Republic is ready to share its experiences with Tunisia, the Iranian foreign minister added.
