PM to apply useful discussions at UN in Thailand

NEW YORK, September 29 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says that useful discussions at the 67th United Nations General Assembly in New York earlier this week will be applied in Thailand if they are beneficial to the country. Yingluck told the public during her recorded weekly broadcast program Saturday morning that she has discussed security issues and has had a good opportunity to strengthen Thailand's relations with government leaders of other UN member countries on the sidelines of this week's UN General Assembly. Yingluck acknowledged that she has used the 2012 UN platform in building confidence, especially among international business operators, in Thailand and the country's future cooperation with other countries, citing her discussions with Myanmar President Thein Sein on bilateral trade and investment, especially on the ongoing development of the Dewei deep seaport in Myanmar as an example. According to the Thai prime minister, agreements reached between Thailand and other government leaders in New York will further enhance bilateral cooperation in future, as several countries expressed their interests in expanding their investment into Thailand in the lead-up to the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015. The Thai premier revealed that foreigners are also interested in Thailand’s beautiful scenery, culture and food, and that she also inspected a kindergarten in New York, the High Line Park, in which old railway lines were used in building the sky public park, and the Grand Central rail station, which are all useful and can be applied in Thailand. Earlier, when delivering her speech at the 67th UN General Assembly, Premier Yingluck called for peaceful solutions to conflicts erupting around the globe and for international support for Thailand’s bid for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council during 2017-2018. The Thai prime Minister, whose trip to New York was set from September 23-29, returned to Bangkok this morning. (TNA)
