Thai police seize about 9,000 litres of smuggled oil
SATUN, Nov 3 (TNA) - Local Thai police in the southern province of Satun have seized 8,900 litres of gasoline and diesel smuggled from Malaysia and arrested six Malaysian and Thai smugglers in two separate incidents.
The first arrest was made while Satun Special Task Force Police was patrolling in the Andaman Sea and found a Malaysian fishing trawler. Following the search, police found 3,800 litres of gasoline contained in fire drums. Three Thais aboard the trawler were apprehended.
Police said three Malaysians were arrested in the second incident after police seized 5,100 litres of diesel smuggled from Malaysia. The trio are natives of Perlis state.
Oil smuggling from Malaysia to Thailand has become more frequent in recent years because oil there is much cheaper than this country. (TNA)
