Iran To Continue Supporting Syria To Counter Enemiesˈ Plots : MP

Damascus, April 22, IRNA – The Chairman of Iranian Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission reaffirmed Iranˈs support for Syria and President Bashar Assad to counter the enemiesˈ conspiracies. In a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem, Alaeddin Boroujerdi said that the visit of Iranian parliamentary delegation means Iranˈs all-out support for the Arab state in the face of plots. Boroujerdi, who is also head of Iran-Syria Parliamentary Friendship Group, added, ˈWe believe that the Syrian nation and government are capable enough to stand against the US plots and find their ways out of the current crisis through vigilance and unity. Al-Muallem, for his part, said that the foreign powers have targeted Syriaˈs strategic role in the region. Syria is countering terrorist groups which are seeking to fuel insecurity in the country, he noted. The Syrian foreign minister appreciated Iranˈs support for his country and said that Syria will do its best to strengthen its economic and commercial ties with Iran. Boroujerdi is also scheduled to meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday. Iranˈs parliamentary delegation led by Boroujerdi arrived in Damascus on a three day visit late Saturday. He had visited Syria in September 2012 for three days during which he met with President Assad and a number of other Syrian officials. Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of Syrian army and security personnel, have been killed in the violence. Several international human rights organizations have accused the foreign-sponsored militants of committing war crimes in Syria./end
