Confab On Syria To Help End Crisis In Arab State: Former Diplomat
Islamabad, May 29, IRNA - Former Pakistani diplomat on Tuesday said that the conference on Syria in Tehran would help find a political solution to the unrest in the Arab country.
Talking to IRNA, Former Secretary General of Foreign Affairs and former ambassador Muhammad Akram Zaki, however, warned that the attitude of the European countries is the major hurdle in restoring peace in Syria.
Iran will host on Wednesday an international conference to help find a political solution for the conflict in ally Syria. More than 40 countries are expected to participate in the Tehran meeting. Tehran has already held two other meetings on the crisis in the Arab country.
Expressing his views, Akram Zaki said that peace is the desire of humanity and every effort for restoring peace in the world must be supported.
He added that Syria is a close friend of Iran and instability in Syria means instability in Middle East and the Muslim world.
“I wish Iran a success in its efforts to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria,ˈ Zaki said.
The former ambassador was of the view that European Unionˈs new decision on lifting arms embargo on Syrian rebels is a dangerous move as it would complicate the situation in the country.
He added that the decision openly declares foreign interference in Syria with arms supply. The analyst added that the approach of European countries is the major hurdle in restoring peace in Syria.
He expressed opposition to any foreign intervention in Syriaˈs internal affairs, stressing that dialogue is the only way to settle dispute.
Akram Zaki has an outstanding record of distinguished public service as a career diplomat and as a Senator.
During his diplomatic career he served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, USA, Nigeria, the Philippines and later became the Secretary General for Foreign Affairs./end
