Iran Hopes For Shift Of Saudi Arabia Stand On Syria

Beirut, Sept 4, IRNA - Chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi conferred on Tuesday with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on issues of mutual interests as well as regional developments.
Referring to the recent meeting of Arab League and the stand adopted by Saudi Arabia against Syria, he said, “We hope for shift of the Saudi stance on Syria inviting the aliens to bomb the Syrian people.”
Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Rokn Abadi was also present in the meeting.
The two sides reviewed expansion of relations between the two countries along with regional developments mainly on Syria.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, he said the delegation voiced Iranian concerns on the growing crisis in the region and Syria in the meeting with Lebanese premier.
On the threats posed by the US to the region, he said our problems with the US are the high wall of mistrust which has been created by the Americans.
He said the US should win Iranian trust and change its antagonistic approach toward Iran.
Given nuclear talks between Iran and the Western governments, he said the upcoming nuclear talks will be very important trial and the change of US approach on nuclear talks could be regarded as a significant step in confidence-building process.
Iran is concerned about the probable US attack on Syria even if it occurs with delay, Boroujerdi said adding, “We hope the US intellectuals prevent the bloodshed as such move will destabilize the entire region.”
Referring to recent Arab League foreign ministers meeting in Egypt, he said the stand taken by Egypt and Tunisia were admirable.
The war-mongering policy on Syria is on decrease and it is expected that the stand adopted by Saudi Arabia inviting the aliens to bomb./end
