Russian Proposal Should Create Ground To Resolve Syrian Crisis Through Diplomatic Means

Moscow, Sept 11, IRNA -- Deputy Foreign Minister for the Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Tuesday that Russian proposal to put the Syrian chemical weapons under international supervision account for a breakthrough to thwart the US hostility against Syria.
He conferred with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem on regional developments.
The two sides underlined that the new proposal offered by Russia on the international supervision of Syrian chemical weapons should be regarded as a breakthrough to resolve the dispute.
The Syrian foreign minister said the offer helps prevent escalation of hostility in the Middle East.
Damascus has welcomed the Russian initiative, said the Syrian foreign minister adding that his country accepted the proposal to deprive the White House of any excuse to unleash bloodshed in Syria.
Damascus and Tehran believe that implementation of the Russian plan should help avert the US hostility against Syrian people, he said.
Any move which might help lessen danger of war on Syrian people should be welcomed, Amir-Abdollahian said.
Damascus and Tehran believe that the plan prepare the ground to resolve the crisis through political means, said the Iranian deputy foreign minister adding that it is expected that the entire region to be cleared from weapons of mass destruction.
The Zionist regime is stockpiling nuclear warheads which should be taken into consideration, he said.
Amir-Abdollahian arrived in Moscow on Monday./end
